Contributor License Agreement
This agreement lets us accept your code into Privt Voice while keeping the freedom to license the project as it grows. It is the same kind of agreement Signal and Threema ask contributors to sign, and we have kept it as short and plain as an agreement of this sort can be.
How to sign
You sign once, and it covers every contribution you make afterward. When you open your first pull request against one of our repositories, leave a comment on it that reads, word for word:
"I have read the Privt Voice Contributor License Agreement at https://stayprivt.com/cla and I agree to it. Signed, [your full legal name], [your GitHub username], [today's date]."
Because that comment is posted from your signed-in GitHub account and carries a timestamp, it stands as a durable record of your agreement. We check for it before merging, and we will not merge a contribution without it. If you are contributing as part of your job, make sure your employer permits it and say so in the same comment.
The agreement
In this agreement, you means the individual or legal entity agreeing to these terms; we, us, and Privt Labs mean Privt. Labs (TEMPUL PTY LTD) and its successors and assigns; the Project means any of the software projects we maintain and to which you contribute; and a Contribution means any original work of authorship, including any changes or additions to existing work, that you intentionally submit to us for inclusion in the Project, other than something you clearly mark at the time as "not a contribution."
Copyright license
You grant Privt Labs, and everyone who receives software we distribute, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, and irrevocable copyright license to reproduce your Contribution, prepare derivative works of it, publicly display and perform it, sublicense it, and distribute it and those derivative works. This is what lets us include your work in the Project and license the Project, your Contribution included, under whatever terms the Project uses now or adopts in the future.
Patent license
You grant Privt Labs, and everyone who receives software we distribute, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, and irrevocable patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer your Contribution. This license covers only the patent claims you own or control that your Contribution alone, or your Contribution combined with the Project, necessarily infringes. If anyone brings a patent lawsuit claiming that your Contribution or the Project infringes a patent, the patent license granted here for that Contribution ends on the day the lawsuit is filed.
Your right to grant it
You confirm that you are legally entitled to grant the licenses above. If your employer holds rights to work you create, you confirm that you have permission to make the Contribution on your employer's behalf, that your employer has waived its rights in your Contribution, or that your employer has signed a separate agreement with us.
Your own work
You confirm that each Contribution is your own original creation, and that it includes complete details of any third-party licence or other restriction that you are personally aware of and that applies to any part of it.
No warranty, and no obligation
You are not expected to support your Contribution beyond whatever you choose to. Unless the law requires it or we agree otherwise in writing, you provide your Contribution as is, without warranties or conditions of any kind. We are under no obligation to accept or include any Contribution in the Project.
Keeping this accurate
You agree to tell us if you become aware of anything that would make any statement in this agreement inaccurate.
